City of Frostproof Business Tax License Information
Who Needs A Business Tax License?
Every person or entity engaging in, carrying on, managing or practicing any business, profession, or occupation, either wholly or in part, within the corporate limits of the city is required to pay the city a tax in the amount designated in chapter 19 of the Code of Ordinances (Ord. No. 2010-22, 9-13-10) and have lawfully in their possession a valid and unrevoked business tax receipt for the current year and having otherwise complied with the terms and provisions of this article. The amount of such tax shall be on the basis of one (1) year. The tax receipt year shall run from October 1 to September 30.

When Do I Need To Renew My License?
All local business taxes are sold beginning July 1 of each year and are due and payable on or before September 30 of each year. If September 30 falls on a weekend or holiday, the tax is due and payable on or before the first working day following September 30. No local business tax receipt shall be issued for more than (1) year. For each receipt obtained between October 1 and April 1, the full tax for one (1) year shall be paid; for each receipt obtained between April 1 and September 30, one-half (½) of the full tax shall be paid.

What Happens if I Pay After September 30?
Local business tax receipts not renewed and paid before October 1 shall be considered delinquent and subject to a delinquency penalty of ten (10) percent for the month of October, plus an additional five (5) percent penalty for each month of delinquency thereafter until paid. However, the total delinquency penalty shall not exceed twenty-five (25) percent of the local business tax.

What Do I Need to Receive My Business Tax License?
You will need to provide the city with the following forms:
- Completed Business Tax Application
- Payment of your taxes as designated in Ord. No. 2010-22, 9-13-10
- Your license from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation
- Your Fictitious Name Filing
- Your Annual Resale Certificate (if you collect sales tax)
- Your Polk County Business Tax Receipt
- If you operate out of a building in city limits you will also need to pass a building and fire inspection.

What If I Am Just Renewing My License?
If you are renewing your license, you must complete the first six (6) steps mentioned under “What Do I Need to Receive My Business Tax License?”. We need you to fill out a new application as we want to make sure we have your most up to date contact info in order to prevent delays in your renewal process. Steps 2-6 are required as they expire and we are required to have your current forms on file.
